Agent Smith

Agent Smith is the main antagonist in The Matrix franchise, primarily portrayed by Hugo Weaving. He starts as an Agent program maintaining order in the Matrix by eliminating threats. After being linked to Neo, he becomes a self-replicating virus that can copy himself onto any entity, gaining their powers. He assimilates the Oracle and fights Neo, ultimately being deleted when Neo allows himself to be overwritten. Smith returns in The Matrix Resurrections, played by Jonathan Groff, with reduced abilities. The character has been praised for his nihilistic wit and is considered one of the greatest movie characters.
