Ian Clarke is an Irish-born computer scientist and the original designer of Hyphanet (formerly Freenet), a decentralized information storage and retrieval system. While at the University of Edinburgh, he developed the concept as a final-year project and released it in 1999. He co-founded Uprizer, Inc., published the FairShare alternative to copyright, and was named a 2003 Technology Review Young Innovator. He later co-founded Revver, a video-sharing platform that compensated creators, and other ventures including Cematics, SenseArray, OneSpot, and open-sourced LastCalc and Swarm.
